Position

We are seeking a Scientist I/II with experience in immunology to join our Nurix drug discovery team. Nurix is devoted to unlocking the therapeutic potential of the ubiquitin system. Ubiquitin ligases play numerous roles in immune cell function, autoimmunity, inflammation and anti-tumor immunity. The successful candidate will support early drug discovery efforts in the area of inflammation and IO. These duties will include planning, execution and analysis of disease relevant cellular and/or in vivo experiments to support the lead optimization of our novel compounds. This individual will work closely with scientists from cross-functional disciplines and present findings to project teams. The ideal candidate will be self-driven, eager to learn new techniques, highly organized and enjoy working in a creative and dynamic team environment.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in immunology or related field (cellular or in vivo); Scientist II level requires similar background with additional post-doctoral training and industry experience
  • Expertise in autoimmunity, immuno-oncology, inflammation or related fields
  • Expertise in immune cell activation and signaling
  • Experience isolating and interrogating the function of primary human and mouse immune cells (e.g. T cells, NK cells, antigen presenting cells) in vitro and in vivo is desired
  • Hands-on experience in development, optimization and execution of immune and cellular assays applying multiple techniques including primary cell isolation, tissue culture, ELISA, FACS, Western and multiplexing technologies (e.g. Luminex, Quantigene)
  • Expertise with flow cytometer based profiling of immune cells required
  • Ability to conceive, design and execute hypothesis-testing experiments that directly contribute to project success is essential
  • Requires excellent communication and presentation skills

You will engage in establishing and supporting early drug discovery efforts targeting E3 ligases in the areas of Oncology and Immuno-Oncology. Specifically, you will conceive and conduct experiments to support lead compound identification and elucidate the mechanism of action of small molecule drug candidate targets in the ubiquitin proteasome pathway.

Your responsibilities will include planning, execution and analysis of in vitro biochemical screening and mechanistic assays to support small molecule discovery efforts for new and ongoing programs. You will work closely with scientists from cross-functional disciplines and present findings to project teams. You should have a strong desire to learn new techniques and the ability to incorporate new methodologies into your work.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Biochemistry, Cell and Molecular Biology, or related field with 6+ years industry experience (or Bachelor’s degree with 8+ years of industry experience)
  • Strong background with hands-on experience in development, optimization and execution of various biochemical binding and activity assays including FP and FRET
  • Prior experience in small molecule screening, liquid handling instruments and data analysis
  • Familiarity with general biochemical and molecular biology techniques including protein expression and purification to support downstream mechanism of action and target occupancy readouts for drug candidates
  • Previous experience in ubiquitin biology is a plus

You will engage in rational structure-based drug discovery enabled by our computational and structural biology group. Specifically, you will design and synthesize novel chemical entities optimized for potency, selectivity, pharmacokinetics and in vivo efficacy. Additionally, you will contribute effectively to patent, report and scientific publication writing.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in synthetic organic chemistry preferably with at least 2 years of biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry experience within a medicinal chemistry department
  • Successful application of structure-based drug design leading to advanced leads / development candidates
  • Strong working knowledge of protein-ligand interactions, conformational and structural analysis, experienced in partnering closely with computational chemists through appropriate use of computational tools, models and visualization applications
  • Proven track record of innovative project contributions including peer-reviewed publications
  • High level of creativity and productivity with strong synthetic problem-solving skills
  • Excellent scientific expertise in organic synthesis, conversant with the current literature
  • Strong knowledge of medicinal chemistry principles with a solid understanding of key ADME, biochemical and pharmacological principles and able to effectively integrate and apply these to the optimization of multiple parameters during lead generation and lead optimization efforts
  • Ability to champion the chemistry efforts into new directions to achieve project milestones

Scientist, Discovery Chemistry

We are seeking a talented and motivated medicinal chemist with a strong background in synthetic organic chemistry to join our team. At Nurix we are leveraging DNA Encoded Library technology to rapidly access chemical matter to modulate UPS targets. You will play a lead role on the front lines of hit identification in selecting and resynthesizing hits from our screening effort in preparation for downstream affinity and activity assays. Through publications and/or patents, you will have demonstrated expertise in synthetic organic chemistry and the analytical methods that support it. Familiarity with hit triage, hit to lead campaigns from other discovery platforms, and an understanding of molecular physicochemical properties that drive drug discovery are desired. Experience with DNA encoded library synthesis, parallel reaction chemistry, split/pool methods and aqueous chemistry is highly preferred.

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in synthetic organic chemistry with 0-4 years industrial chemistry experience
  • Expert in synthetic organic chemistry methods and analytical tools, in particular, LCMS
  • Familiarity with principles and practice of DNA encoded library technology
  • Desire to lead initiatives in platform building and technology development
  • High level of creativity and productivity with strong synthetic problem-solving skills
  • Solid track record of scientific accomplishment demonstrated by publications, patents, or presentations
  • Excellent communication skills and able to present the rationale, key data, issues and accomplishments in a matrix setting
  • Demonstrated competence with manipulating large data files and familiarity with the tools necessary to effectively organize, visualize and distill structure data to facilitate rapid decision making.
